Wolf Forge is built around a fairly simple idea: your data is yours.

Wherever reasonably possible, Wolf Forge tools are designed to work without accounts, tracking, telemetry or unnecessary collection of personal information.

What Wolf Forge collects

Wolf Forge does not intentionally collect personal information about you simply because you use our software or visit our website.

We do not use Wolf Forge software to build profiles of users, track how you use our applications, or sell information about you.

Our applications do not contain advertising trackers or analytics telemetry unless a particular project clearly states otherwise.

Some Wolf Forge tools process files or information that you provide to them. Where a tool is described as operating locally or in your browser, that processing takes place on your device and the files are not uploaded to Wolf Forge servers.

Website and server logs

Like most internet services, the infrastructure hosting the Wolf Forge website may temporarily record standard technical information required to operate and secure the service.

This can include information such as your IP address, browser information, requested pages and the time of a request.

These logs are used only for technical operation, troubleshooting and security. They are not used to build advertising or behavioural profiles.

Cookies and local storage

Wolf Forge does not intentionally use advertising or tracking cookies.

Essential cookies or local browser storage may be used where technically necessary for a particular feature. Where this happens, they are used only for that purpose.

If our use of cookies or similar technologies changes substantially, this policy will be updated.

Biscuits and payments

Wolf Forge software is free. If you choose to support the project by buying us some biscuits once payments are available, payments will be processed by Stripe.

Stripe collects and processes the information necessary to complete your payment. This may include payment details, contact information and information required for fraud prevention or legal compliance.

Wolf Forge does not receive or store your full card details.

Stripe operates under its own privacy policy and retention requirements.

Wolf Forge may retain transaction information made available to us by Stripe where it is necessary for accounting, tax, fraud prevention, resolving payment queries or complying with legal obligations.

How long we keep information

Wolf Forge deliberately tries to minimise the personal information it holds.

Website and server logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting and operation of the service, after which they are deleted or overwritten.

Payment and accounting records may be retained for as long as required to meet applicable tax, accounting and legal obligations.

Correspondence, such as emails or support requests, is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the enquiry and any related follow-up or legal obligation.

Information is deleted or anonymised when there is no longer a reasonable operational or legal reason to retain it.

Where a third-party provider such as Stripe processes information independently, its own retention policies also apply.

Why we process information

Where Wolf Forge does process personal information, it is only where there is a reason to do so. Depending on the circumstances, this may include:

• providing or operating a service you have requested;
• responding to a message or support request;
• processing and recording a biscuit payment;
• maintaining the security and reliability of Wolf Forge services; or
• meeting accounting, tax or other legal obligations.

The applicable lawful basis will normally be performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, or Wolf Forge's legitimate interests in operating and securing its services, depending on the circumstances.

Third-party services

Some Wolf Forge projects may interact with third-party services, platforms or APIs in order to provide their functionality.

Those services may receive information necessary to fulfil your request and operate under their own privacy policies.

Where this is significant, we will try to make it clear within the relevant project.

Open-source software

Much of Wolf Forge software is open source.

Where source code is publicly available, you are welcome to inspect it to see what the software actually does rather than simply taking our word for it.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to ask for access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion or restriction of processing, and to object to certain uses of your information.

Because Wolf Forge deliberately collects very little personal information, in many cases there may simply be very little for us to provide or delete.

You also have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Changes to this policy

If Wolf Forge changes how it handles personal information, this policy will be updated.

We will try to keep this page readable rather than turning it into seventeen pages of legal archaeology.
